Week 3 Reflection!

Just like that the first week of the internship is already done! Our first 2 days was training which consisted of going over expectations and learning the “how tos” on our different communications. We completed our first 2 workshops, and in both workshops I felt that the interns all got on a more personal level which I think brings more harmony to the group.

One of our projects included in this internship is Emergent Strategy. Emergent Strategy is a book about radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help designed to shape the futures we want to live. Reading the first section of this book took my mind to a newer setting, one where I started noticing how small actions and connections create complex systems. In the book the author mentioned that to her everyone is her teacher, by saying that she's implying that she has something new to learn from everyone she comes across in life. Which I thought was very eye opening and can be used to flip negative outcomes to positive lessons. Something else she mentioned I found very interesting was that we are all constantly in an imagination battle, and because of that same imagination that was going on inside a white person's head Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Renisha Mcbride, and numerous others are all now dead because they were looked at as “dangerous”. It's absolutely insane how the imagination we have in our heads can cause excessive death and destruction.
